Childs 1860 Staff & Field Sword. Civil War era toy

Awesome child’s model 1860 Staff & Field sword. These smaller replica’s were a favorite for Civil War officers to give to their sons. During the war, Sec. of War Edwin Stanton gave Abraham Lincoln’s son Tad a make believe commission as a lieutenant complete with a uniform and a similar sword which is now on display in the museum at Ford’s Theater in Washington DC .

This example was played with by several generations so the 27 inch sword shows wear. There are minor edge nicks and a brown patina on the blade with no active rust. The guard has a little play but is tight. Much of the surface of the scabbard has a mottled brown patina and if it had a drag it is now missing. A wonderful toy from the Civil War era through the remainder of the century that would never pass muster as a toy in today’s society. THANKS FOR LOOKING AND GOOD LUCK
