Camp near Centreville: " This is the first time I have had a chance to write to you since the fight of "Stone Bridge"over"Bull Run :....eight page letter describing the battles and strategies and office3rs in some detail... addressed to "wife"and signed "Abner McCabe." Letter 2: November 18, 1861, four pages; describes pulling sentry duty, building brush huts, cooking, spirits of the men... Letter 3: December 22, 1861 Camp near Centreville....four page letter describing some of battles and some 'blunders" of General Stuart. Letter 4: December 28, 1861, Camp Centreville.... 4 page letter... describes furloughs and conditions.... requests appointment on Gen. Stuart's staff. Letter 5: December 11, 1862; short two page torn from tablet...Richmond/Fredericksburg rail road... trying to buy brandy for eggnog but impossible...Letter 6: May 13th 1963, Chancellsville,Va .. short four page letter... describes the battle as a "dashing little fight"....stolen Yankee suppliesLetter 7: June 23rd, 1863, very faint but somew in Pennsylvania... movements from Potomac to Sharpsburg, to town called Middleton, PaLetter 8: February 3rd, 1865, Holcombs Rock, Bedford, Va... four page letter ... losing wagons crossing the Blue Ridge... everybody
