Perfect for Civil War Union Reenactors! Very Authentic Reproduction! Purchase this quality made Forage Kepi Hat to add to your Civil War collection, wear to Civil War Reenactments, or to give as a gift to a Civil War history buff! Not like some of the other hats listed on EBay. This is a regulation Union Army Model 1861 Forage Cap or Bummer (mistakenly referred to as a Kepi). It is a McDowell pattern with a rounded crescent shaped brim and has a cotton lining, just like the original. It has a genuine leather sweat band and two small Eagle brass buttons that hold the leather chin strap (3/4" wide) with buckle and keepers in place. The chin strap is fully functional. This hat is a size (L) Large , being 23 7/8" in circumference. The Rise in the Back of hat is 9 1/2", and the Rise in the Front of the hat is 6 1/2". Early Civil War depictions of Stonewall Jackson show him wearing this type of Federal Cap. This cap can also be worn with an internal stiffener to make it look like a Militia Shako hat, as it was intended to to be worn pre-war because it has the additional fabric needed to make the upright Shako. This hat is made of 100% Dark Navy Blue high quality wool, with genuine leather sweat band, visor and chin strap. The disc (top of hat) measures 5 3/4" across. This hat is very authentic and correct in all the details. BRAND NEW
