"Sacred Bark Scrolls and Contents" Issued: 1891 Method: Lithograph Size: 11.25 x 7.5 in. (28.5 x 19 cm) Paper: Wove Reverse side: Blank Printed in 1891 by Sackett & Wilhelms Litho Co., New York. This original print is over 120 years old. It is not a modern reproduction. This is a color stone lithographic print showing a birch-bark container and the contents found inside. The birch-bark roll has the ends slit into strips in order for them to fold in on each other so the ends can be closed. It has been carved with illustrations of a thunder god and a buffalo. Inside, were four small items: a small paper like package with a thunderbird image carved on the outside, two small boxes made of pine wood, and painted or stained red and black, and the bottom item is a bundle of three small cotton bags wrapped with a strip of blue cloth - they contained medicine and powders. Condition - The image area is flat and smooth, with bright unfaded colors. The paper is clean and free of stains or foxing, with only slight browning of the page edges. There is a spot at the lower left which appears to be a defect in the paper pulp. The scans are accurate as displayed, and you are welcome to contact me if you require additional information.
