Up for auction is what I believe to be a rare colored Normandy Herb & Root Stomach Bitters bottle. The bottle is roughly 7-3/4" tall x 3-1/8" wide x 2-5/8" deep. The color is somewhat deceiving depending on the lighting conditions. My personal opinion is that it's a nice yellow olive shading to more of a yellow amber at the base. I'll let you judge for yourself. The bottle is in a nice dug condition with some hazing and a tiny pot stone in the corner (see photos 7 and 8). The postone has two tiny legs radiating measuring about 1/8" from end to end. The bottle is boldly embossed with raised lettering "Normandy / Herb & Root / Stomach Bitters" on one side and "Normandy / Medicine M'FG Co. / Louisville, KY" on the opposite panel. It has a large "horseshoe" embossed near the neck on the third panel. The fourth unpaneled side has an intact elliptical bubble about 7/8" along the longest axis and a crude ripple effect in the glass. The bottom is embossed "F.C.G. Co." which stands for the "Fall City Glass Co." which was located in Louisville, KY. The bottle has an early INSIDE applied lip and half circled hinge mold bottom. I think the bottle dates to the 1870s-1880s. It is listed in Ring's reference book as rare (N38, I believe).This is an extremely desirable bitters in a fantastic color.
