A bayonet with a most interesting history. 24" blade, dark toning. S&K (Schnitzler & Kirschbaum) maker marked to ricasso. Tiny anchor to reverse. Steel guard. Brass grip. Small round button with exposed spring. 3 digit number to pommel. According to the web site Arms 2 Armor, this bayonet was originally manufactured for a Belgian firm which planned to export them to Brazil for use by the Brazilian Navy. At the start of the US Civil War, the production run of 10,000 was diverted here. Bayonet is said to fit the rare Colt Revolving Rifle and a Brazilian Naval Rifle copied from the British P1856 Sergeant`s Rifle. The scabbard appears to be from a French 1866 Chassepot and is too short. We`ll send it along to keep the blade from poking anyone. A bayonet worthy of further study.
