This is a nice copper or copper alloy axe from Northern Iran. It dates to roughly the end of the third millennium BCE. Similar examples can be seen in P.R.S. Moorey Catalog of Ancient Persian Bronzes in the Ashmolean Museum pp 41-43. Axes of this type are commonly attributed either to the broad classification of Luristan or to the Elamite culture. This particular piece weighs 222 grams and measures 8 cm in length. It is 6.5 cm tall and roughly 2.5 cm wide at the top of the socket. It is very solid and stable with no sign of repair or restoration.
