Coro Duette Sterling Rhinestone Enamel Bee Brooch Pin

This fantastic sterling silver bumblebee Coro Craft Duette brooch is marked "PAT. No. 1798867". That patent was granted in 1931. The figural Duette pins, like this one, with the double pronged fur clips on the reverse were made in the late 1930's and early 1940's. (See Warman's Jewelry by Christie Romero, page 200.)

The setting is gold washed sterling silver in very good condition. All three pieces are marked "STERLING." The brooch is also marked "CORO CRAFT," and "CORO DUETTE." T is a detachable pinback mechanism for joining the pins as a brooch. The brooch measures 2 3/4" x 1 1/2" joined and weighs 17 grams.

The two bumblebee Duette pins are decorated with hand enameling and rhinestones. Their eyes are clear rhinestones with a tiny red dot in each eye! T are no missing rhinestones. Of the 62 sparkling rhinestones, only one has darkened and it is located at the wing tip w it is under the other bumblebee when the pin is assembled.

The enameling is very lifelike: black head and legs, wings and bodies are yellow with intricate brown tracings. T is some enamel wear on the legs and antennae...I've tried to show this in the photos. The enamel on the wings and bodies is in excellent condition.

The combination of the rhinestones and enameling is breathtaking! This is a SUPER brooch!
