Court House Gainesville Florida Tea Cup made in Germany

Bone china Tea Cup with picture of the Gainesville Florida (Alachua County) Court House

Gold rim (worn) - No Chips, Cracks, or Discoloration - Made in Germany (date unknown)

The Gainesville courthouse shown on the cup is the second of four court houses in Alachua County (Gainesville). It was built in 1885 and demolished in 1958. Among the more celebrated trials to have occurred was a suit for invasion of privacy filed in 1943 against Cross Creek author Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, who had written an unflattering description of the local census taker. The demitasse or expresso sized cup is most likely a souvenier from the 1940's.
