Civil War letter from Leslie Warren, private Co. I, 2nd Vermont Volunteer Infantry, dated March 1, 1862 from Camp Griffin, VA written to his mother Elvira Leslie. It is a four page letter, written in ink on 5 X 8" paper. An envelope and canceled stamp are included. A very nice letter from a soldier that went into the Army in June of 1861. Warren S. Leslie , Residence Plymouth VT ; Enlisted on 5/18/1861 as a Private. On 6/20/1861 he mustered into "I" Co. VT 2nd Infantry He was discharged for disability on 2/12/1863 Leslie made these comments: 1. Tents of the 2nd and 3rd Vt blew down yesterday. 2. Rebel prisoners are being sent home, Our Generalss are afraid that we shall whip the south so they give up all the prisoners we take and all they have to do is go back and get some more armies and fight us again. 3 Decided to stay 3 years and if they don't whip the south in that time they never will and we might have whipped them before now if we hadn't a lot of traders to the head of the army.
