Up for auction is the American Wildlife Sterling Silver Medal Collection issued by The Danbury Mint in 1972. This is one of the first art medal series issued by the Danbury Mint and features exotic sculpted portraits of American Wildlife by Sculptor Norman Sillman. Each of the 25 medals is struck with a proof finish and contains 1,000 grains...2.1 ounces of .925 sterling silver. The entire collection contains 52.08 troy ounces of .925 sterling silver. Also includes a stunning handcrafted American walnut display frame as well as reference cards and artist's sketches for each medal. The medals and display are in excellent condition with no flaws except minor toning or clouding on some of the medals and some scuffs on certain capsules. Otherwise the medals are free from fingerprints or other issues. This is a rare collection that doesn't show up often. Also of note is that the set was struck for Danbury Mint by the famous and now gone Birmingham Mint in England, also known as the Heaton's Mint. Each medal is edgemarked with an elegant marking including the silver content, D/M hallmark, and the Birmingham mark, as well as the year of minting.
