The Dance of Death, from the original Designs of Hans Holbein. Illustrated with Thirty-Three Plates, engraved by W. Hollar. With Descriptions in English and French. Printed in 1816 for J. Coxhead: London. [ii],70 pages, with 33 plates interspersed throughout the text. Measures 8.25" x 5.25". Original diced calf binding, rubbed and worn. Both joints are 70% cracked/split. Later marbled end pages. Text block tight. Scattered soiling, fingering marks, and foxing. T are 33 plates, 31 of which are handcolored. "Hans Holbein the Younger (c. 1497– between 7 October and 29 November 1543) was a German artist and printmaker who worked in a Northern Renaissance style. He is best known for his numerous portraits and his woodcut series of the Dance of Death, and is widely considered one of the finest portraitists of the Early Modern Period." (Wikipedia).
