About Khatam Inlaid Art : Khatam is one of Persian Arts , and is the art of decorating the surface of wooden articles with delicate pieces & Currently this art is being practiced in Isfahan, Shiraz and Tehran.Some of the Iranian inlaid works are preserved in museums inside or outside Iran (Persia) It is not clear yet who invented this art. However , Khatam is believed to have come to Iran from china during the Mongols and Safavid periods. The Khatam works created previously and include: Doors and widows, mirror frames Koran boxes, Koran–racks, cradle frames, comb covers, jewelry boxes, Khatam chest for holy places, pulpits of the shrine of Imams' off spring, pen boxes, cigarette boxes, chess boards and picture frames, pill boxes and tissue paper boxes.Khatam is made in different sides; five, six, eight, and ten sides. At present, the six sided Khatam is the most prevalent whose materials are cut and Wrapped or pasted equilateral triangle from with string or glue. t are a few skillful masters to make multiple sides Khatams. At present, they make and repair such works.Inlaid Khatam is formed with a few materials :1. Woods : sour orange , ebony , prick , walnut , jujube wood and etc.2. Oyster shells3.
