A Beautiful Buffalo Deldare Emerald Ware Plate - Dr. Syntax 'Losing His Way' This highly collectible plate was made by Buffalo Pottery in 1911. Called Emerald Deldare, it was part of a fine line of pottery designed to compete with English Staffordshire. These hand painted and signed plates were based upon the comic etchings of the English artist Thomas Rowland and titled 'The Tours of Dr, Syntax'. On this plate, Dr. Syntax is depicted losing his way on what appears to be a lonely moor. This plate is 9 ¼" in diameter. It is in almost mint condition with a few small scratches. T are three marks on the back which must have resulted from the manufacturing process. The plate is a deep rich green, the photos do not do it justice. T is crazing in the glaze which is evident in the photos. The hallmark is slightly off center and t is a '7' below it. The plate is signed by E. Dowman. This is a very rare and collectible plate, good luck bidding on it.
