THE DESERT BATTALION ; by Jack Preston & Mrs. Edward G. Robinson (Robbie) ; Softcover ; 98 page s ; Signed by Mrs. Edward G. Robinson ; 1944 ; First edition (not stated) ; Drawings used for this book were produced and contributed by the staff of Walt Disney Productions ; Published by Murray & Gee of Hollywood ; Milt Gross provided the drawing for the front cover and other cartoons,"The Desert Battalion was organized in late spring 1942 by Gladys Lloyd "Robbie" Robinson, wife of actor Edward G. Robinson. This "feminine battalion," run by "brigadears," was recruited to entertain U.S. soldiers who were stationed in remote, desert locations in southern California. It was there that General George S. Patton trained his troops for the conditions they would face in the deserts of North Africa. Some 600 young women between the ages of 18 and 25 eventually took part in the Desert Battalion."I have found this book to be in good to good plus condition. There are signs of rubbing on the corners and top/bottom of the spine. The binding is tight and there are not any loose, missing or cutout pages. The lettering and drawings on the front cover remains in good plus condition (see photo). The text/drawings remain sharp and crisp. Tiny page edge rip on pages 97/98 . There isn't any other marks in this book. This is an Original Desert Battalion book
