This comes from a large collection of music memorabilia from a longtime journalist in the Philadelphia area (see my other auctions!). This is a 1968 issue of the underground tabloid-size newspaper Distant Drummer, with a very groovy ad on the back page for the Electric Factory club in the city. Topping the upcoming acts is Jimi Hendrix, but there's also Country Joe, The Soft Machine, Vanilla Fudge, Big Brother and the Holding Company, and a host of other grooviness. It's 11.5 by 17 inches. The paper itself has that great handmade look, with typewritten copy, and a story about a visit from Alan Ginsberg written by Ira Einhorn (who got in a bit of trouble later...), written in a nearly incomprehensible way! Also, photos of the opening of the Electric Factory, so you can see the tie-in with the back page ad! The pages are toned with age but not soiled or brittle. Carefully kept all these years. US postage is $3.50.
