Nice Refinished Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk With Original Lock and an Interior Tray This trunk is only $39.00 shipping cost to any of the lower 48 states through UPS! Canadian customers contact us for a possible shipping quote. Here is a nice clean refinished American made dome top trunk which should date back to about the late 1800's to around 1900. There is a patent date on the brass key hole cover. It shows, "Pat Mar 69 & Apr 71". We have provided a close up picture of this key hole cover. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 28 inches, from floor to top is approximately 19 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 15 1/2 inches. We have removed some of the metal from this trunk to expose the wood beneath. The trunk is made up of pine base wood with oak or ash outer slat boards. The wooden surfaces have been prepared and finished with three coats of polyurethane. The wood is in pretty nice condition with some typical scrapes and nicks in the wood which are from the past, making the trunk have a nice antique look. There aren't many stress cracks to mention in this trunk which is pretty unusual since most trunks have quite a few stress cracks in the wood. The only brass metal on this trunk is the key hole cover which we have semi polished. The rest of the metal we have brush painted by hand in black and gold leaf. This trunk comes with the original lock. We have found a newer style key that does activate the lock, although it is a little bit difficult to do so. You have to angle the key a certain way to make it lock and unlock. We just thought we should mention it since these older locks are always pretty crude. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. The front latches are cast iron and they do work properly since the springs are in good working shape. This might make a great storage chest to store your collectibles and personal belongings in. They have always been used to store clothing and blankets in at the foot of the bed. Look around your house and maybe there is a special spot for this charming trunk. For the past 10 years, our trunks on ebay have been making wonderful lifetime lasting gifts for anyone special. They make great holiday gifts and gifts for special occasions. Going to the interior of this nice trunk, we have made a tray that rests at the top edge where the original one once did. We have removed the interior paper since it was worn out looking. Then we finished the interior wood and tray with two coats of polyurethane. The interior is in pretty clean shape considering the age of this trunk. We have added a nice trunk maker's style picture of a Victorian girl holding her pet cat while posing. The external bottom or underside of this trunk has been finished and still has the factory metal casters, one at each corner. They do spin. Overall, this trunk has turned out to be pretty nice and it does come with an interior tray.
