Donn Clendenon 1969 NY Mets Daily News Stark Portraits

This is a 1969 New York Mets Portfolio of Stars put out by Stark of the New York Daily News (as in sports cartoonist Bruce Stark) celebrating the 1969 version of the New York Mets. Of course, the Mets were an expansion squad in 1962, a group of retreads and loveable losers led by Marvelous Marv Throneberry that caused manager Casey Stengel to ask, Can anyone play this game? But slowly but surely the Mets began to build, a talented squad, some timely trades, an outstanding pitching staff, and a cagey manager in Brooklyn Dodgers slugger Gil Hodges back from Washington. And while 1967 and 1968 looked promising, in 1969 it all came together in the year of Miracles, the 1969 miracle mets. So the Daily News put out this set of portraits of all the stars, day by day in the New York Daily News, t are 20 including Tom Seaver, Nolan Ryan, Jerry Koosman, manager Gil Hodges, and many others.
