BEAUTIFULLY PRESERVED DETAILED SILK ATTIRE DOOR OF HOPE CHILDREN ARE VERY RARE & DIFFICULT TO FIND CIRCA 1900's * AUTHENTIC A lovely carved pear-wood face *HAND PAINTED FACIAL FEATURES Head carved from Chinese "niponga wood" or pear wood by MASTERS & donated to mission Lips, eyes & hair were then skillfully hand painted. *********** Judging by his magnificent silk costume, he represents the upper class consisting of a beautiful pale pink full length silk tunic PASTEL ACCENTS of BRIGHT COLORFUL SILKS BROCADE SLIPPERS w/ hand made TRIM see PICS all INTRICATE DETAILS! Layered clothing is finely hand-stitched w/ working ‘frog’ closures ********************************** In 1900, 5 missionary ladies started the Door of Hope Mission in Shanghai. It was a school for destitute girls. They sewed to provide for themselves and thus created the Door of Hope dolls. SO HIGHLY PRIZED TODAY T were approximately 26 standard characters representing different Chinese social classes Each girl could dress only about one a month, tfore production was limited.
