Up for auction is a darling little double RABBIT fetish by Zuni Pueblo artisan Fabian Tsethlikai . The two rabbits are sitting side by side facing in opposite directions. This fine piece measures just about 1&1/2 inches across and 3/4 inch tall. Each of the rabbits is about an inch long.It is carved from turquoise with a substantial amount of matrix. The tiny eyes of both rabbits are inlaid red coral. The artist has initialed the piece, "FT," in his unique style on the bottom. This is a Native American hand-carved item and comes from the Zuni Pueblo in northern New Mexico. In Zuni Indian tradition, each animal is believed to have innt powers or qualities that may aid the owner of a fetish carved in the image of that animal. The rabbit represents virtue, serenity, and "low curiosity." He's also the special guardian of women in child birth and is associated with safe birth and long life for children.
