Antique Handpainted Porcelain Inkwell by Carl Thieme Saxonian Porcelain Factory Potschappel, Saxony, germany "Blue Ribbon Ink Well w/ Tray" 7 3/4" long x 6" wide x 3" tall Circa 1901 Up for auction from Dee's Of Richmond is a absolutely gorgeous antique inkwell & tray by Carl Thieme porcelain. This beautiful Dresden porcelain ink well features handpainted blue ribbons, roses, flowers and gold jewelling over a bright white porcelain. T is a removable ink pot in the middle of the square holder. All of the parts are outlined in gold trim. This piece is 100% hand painted, as can be seen under a loup. T are no micro-dot patterns to indicate transfer. This is first-class artistry and ranks up t with the finest German porcelain. The condition is excellent and t are absolutely no losses to the piece. Usually the gold trim is at least worn in spots, but not in this case. T is no crazing, no cracks, repairs or fleabites. It is obvious this has never been used and was sitting behind glass for all of it's life. One sees so many pieces with the same floral designs that are transfer-type patterns, especially from Japan in the early 20th century. They obviously were copying pieces like this. The makers mark can clearly be seen on the side, with the Carl Thieme script initials over Dresden. For more interesting items, please see my Vintage
