Exceptional original etching by Amelia Coats. The artist lived in Hawaii during the first part of the 20th century and is known for her depictions of Hawaii primarily during the 1920s and 1930s. This original etching depicts a couple houses along the water among palm trees reflecting dramatically in the water. The medium is etching on paper, is signed in pencil lower right by the artist, is not dated but most likely from the 1920s or 1930s. Though fairly small this etching is relatively large for Coats. The image, excluding signature, measures 6 7/16" by 4 15/16". The plate dimensions, including signature measure 6 3/4" by 5 1/8". The paper it is printed on measures 9 1/8" by 7 3/16". I found this print in the original framing with glass, backing, etc intact but in aging condition. I don't think the framing is worth shipping so I will ship in the original folder you see in one of the photos which measures 16 1/2" by 13 1/4". This print is in wonderful condition with no negative condition issues except a tiny bit of overall, consistent toning or darkening to paper and a tiny bit of acid burn to the immediate order of the etching. The only other issue is the original glue at the top of the back of the paper. An absolutely fine and rare print of early Hawaii by Amelia Coats. Questions always welcome and thanks for looking.
