"Conklin Pat 5-22-1918" on clip. The Conklin inscription on the barrel is clean and crisp. The color is a rich deep green pearl with a swirling marble effect over a dark background. The fill lever meets firm resistance from a fresh sac, draws water when tested and writes smoothly. The nib is inscribed "Conklin, Toledo, USA," and has what appears to be a crack confined to the nib's base (w the nib enters the section) that does not affect its writing performance. No brassing at all on the rings or lever, and some brassing on the clip. No dings or dents in the cap or body, and a magnifying glass reveals only minor, inconspicuous wear. Overall, the scarcity and exceptional beauty of this pen make it a solid investment and joy to own.
