Description: Dehati is proud to present antique, nomedic, decorative and mid 19th century Caucasian Akstafa rug. Akstafa rugs were actually not woven on the large town in the Kazak weaving district (near Lambalo and Shulaver) but rather on the Shirvan weaving area, probably on south Shirvan. The magnificent colors of this rug also suggest a southern Shirvan attribution. The named Akstafa has become entrenched in popular carpet literature to describe in particular rugs with a composition of large fan tailed birds, probably meant to represent peacocks, flanking a vertical series of large squarish eight pointed stars. This is a very beautiful "Akstafa" rug with three large medallions. The medallions are unusual for 'Akstafa', with birds. You could see some simllar medallions in Akstafa Prayer rugs without their typical birds. This rug is unusual. T aren't many 'Akstafa' rugs with this kind of medallions alongs with traditional large birds on the field. This is one of those few which come really hard. "See somewhat similar rugs with 'Akstafa' medallions and without birds, on: Ian Bennett, Oriental Rugs - Volume 1." Look at the wide and ivory border in great design that surrounded tby two small beautiful borders at different color. T are stylized animal, small geometric designs, stars and flower figures with great design and colors.
