This auction includes one very rare Florida East Coast Railroad / Railway ( Flagler System ) railroad step box used for boarding passenger / pullman cars. This extremely rare step box ( perhaps without question one of the most rare produced by Morton ) is embossed FEC RWY and below it . it says Flagler System, which was used very early.. and typically was called that to include Flagler's many hotels across the state of Florida.. The FEC was a overall a small railroad which did not nearly have as many step boxes as larger railroads like the Southern, Illinois Central , Pennsylvania , New York Central, Pullman, Chicago North Western, Milwaukee Road, T&P, Rock Island , Missouri Pacific, Atlantic Coast Line, Seaboard , L&N , Southern Pacific , Santa Fe etc.... The FEC ran from Jacksonville Florida down the east coast of Florida through Daytona Beach, down to West Palm Beach, Boca Raton , Fort Lauderdale and down to Miami.. The railroad also had a famous extensio down to Key West which was destroyed in 1935.. its very possible this stool dates back to use on the Key West Extension.... Note this step box, with the extremely rare Flagler System embossed name, likely dates from the 1920's to 1940's ... as many of these smaller early Morton step boxes were replaced with larger square step boxes.. This particular step box is in very good overall
