It's unusual to find a Cake Plate that stands this tall... over 6 inches!!!... And it's also unusual to find one that's "square"... 10 and ¼ inches across!!!... And then t's this exquisite combination of glass colors. The base of this regal beauty is an exceptionally deep dark Cobalt Blue... while the top is Crystal. I'm an old glass factory "buff"... and trust me... producing a piece such as this is no simple process!!!... Several years ago... in one of my many visits to the old Dereume Glass Factory in Pennsylvania... I watched in disbelief as one piece after another warped out of shape... much to the frustration of the glass workers. Today we take so much for granite... but this glass making is a real art... and with most of the small "cottage" glass makers slipping into the pages of history... who will be willing to dedicate the effort necessary... to assemble remarkable pieces such as this... today... or in the future???... As for the pattern... I've heard this pattern referred to by collectors as... "Elizabeth"... and also as... "Peacock". The correct name may very well be "Elizabeth"... but the design in the pattern... on both the plate area as well as the pedestal... resemble the spread tail feathers of a Peacock... and so the name "Peacock" has also been used.
