LOT 2065Seller's Estimate: USD 300 - 500Frederick Sears' III diary and photo album from his trip to Greenland in 1899. Sears along with a group of "wealthy sportsmen" sailed on Lieutenant Peary's expedition steamer "Diana." Herbert Bridgman, secretary of the Peary Club, headed the trip, of which the main purpose was to bring supplies to Peary. Sears was part of the group who paid to hunt on land and sea. Diary contains graphic details of killing walruses, caribou, etc, plus descriptions of native guides. Peary was never with this group but is referenced. Excerpt dated Aug 24: "Peary, Dr. Diedrukst, Matt Hensen, had all left general opinion that Peary was very grasping." He would go on the "Diana" while the hunters were on land and take their furs and meat and trade them for boots, etc. Photo album contains about 39 photographs of the ship, with the party, several of natives, etc. Provenance: From the estate of Eleonora Randolph Sears.Payment:The buyer is responsible for paying the seller directly after winning the item.
