From a local Antwerp collection, is this intriguing and refined early 19th century drawing.
The drawing, executed in pencil on early 19th century paper, depicts a refined portrait of a nobel gent. The drawing was based on a portrait by Van Dyck.
Authorship : the drawing is from the French School. The curious aspect about the sheet is the old inscription below (aparantly part of a label), mentioning that this could be a drawing by Ingres (Montauban 1780 - Paris 1867), a study on base of a drawing by Van Dyck). This attribution should be the subject of further research.
Period : ca. 1825 (the watermark in the paper indicates the year "1825").
Size : 26,8x19,3cm.
Right below on the support : an inscription "GZE".
