THE AMERICAN VIRGIN ISLANDS A Photographic Essay By Fritz Henle - THE HARD-TO-FIND BOXED GROUP OF HELIOGRAVURE-PRINTED PHOTOGRAPHS, SUITABLE FOR INDIVIDUAL FRAMING - [FIRST EDITION] New York: Macmillan, 1971. Boxed portfolio of loose color plates tipped onto stiff mounts plus 8 page booklet with introduction by Ellis Gladwin and information on each photograph. 4to (13 x 13 inches). With 23 (of 24) color heliogravure plates, each facsimile signed by the photographer on the mount as well as the back of the image. Photographs taken with a Rolleiflex SL 66. The signed color gravure plates (often found framed and matted as originals) were printed in Lucerne, Switzerland; the grey cloth portfolio made by C.P. Pletsch in Hamburg, Germany. Portfolio has a water stain at top edge and some of the embossed lettering is worn; the booklet has some foxing and wear but all of the prints are in very good, frameable condition.
