RARE GEORG JENSEN "CYPRESS" LARGE OVAL SOUP/DESSERT SPOONS C. 1954 7"L You are bidding on a rare set of six Georg Jensen "Cypress" pattern large 7" Oval Soup/Dessert Spoons,(the form is called a Table Spoon in America), designed by Tias Eckhoff and hand-made by Georg Jensen c. 1954-60. This seminal pattern, which exerted a profound influence on Post-WWII flatware design, has been widely-copied, and still exerts a strong influence today.The elegant, sculptural simplicity of the tapering 'Cypress'-form handle is emphasized by the gently upswept curves of the hanlde, with the sides of the handleraised to form both a sculptural line and 'grip' that taper into a triangular neck that bridges the gently-pointed bowl of the spoon.The design is a tour-d'-force of abstract sculpture, and is highly-regarded as one of the most-important, completely-abstract silver patterns that broke from the historicist-decoration of typical silver patterns.The design, created by Norwegian master-designer Tias Eckhoff just after WWII, is bold, courageous, sophisticated and elegant, without resorting to obvious decoration or historical imitation.
