The Globe company became Globe-Wernicke in 1899 (so this piece then likely predates that) and was the maker known by all antique furniture aficionados for producing the highly desirable flip-front lawyer cabinet bookcase and secretary sectional units. This item is of identical heritage and construction.
Various size pieces were offered as one unit for purchase - hence the "Elastic" name - and t could be any number of combinations made. This exceptional and rarely seen grouping measures 41 ½ inches wide by 58 inches high and comprises five pieces: Twelve drawer base unit measuring 23 3/8 inches high and 25 inches deep, with drawers measuring 2 7/16 high by 19 ¼ wide. Three file drawer unit measuring 13 1/8 inches high by 25 inches deep, with drawers measuring 12 ¾ inches high by 11 ¾ wide. Six drawer unit measuring 13 1/8 inches high by 17 inches deep, with drawers measuring 3 ¾ inches high by 19 ¼ inches wide. Drawers in this section have a narrow wooden divider, removable, that runs front to back making for two storage areas in each drawer.
