This is a very nice, early Gonder ceramic Madonna planter in the sea swirl glaze. It is Rumrill mold number R303, which is an earlier piece than the identical mold number E303 used later. It is a gorgeous soft turquoise color with brown highlights, and stands 5 3/4" high by 4" wide. The last photo was taken with a flash so it appears brighter, but it shows the beautiful color and detail. The inside glaze is the soft pink found in most Gonder pottery. It is marked R-303 GONDER USA. She is in excellent condition with only a few wear spots on the bottom rim, perhaps from sitting on a window sill. T is a photo of the bottom. T are no cracks, chips, or crazing and it is in amazing condition for a functional item made in the early 1940's. Notice the beautiful, serene face on this Madonna. She is just lovely. Gonder Pottery was only manufactured from 1941 to 1957 in Zanesville, Ohio, and thus, has become highly collectible. Lawton Gonder was a master creator of new and unusual pottery glazes, as is evident in this piece! It would be a wonderful addition to your collection of Gonder Pottery or Madonnas Thank you for you interest and happy bidding!
