GORGEOUS 1953 BIRKS STERLING SILVER CRYSTAL POWDER JAR
- Source: eBay
Spectacular!!! A perfect condition, sterling silver and crystal/cut glass dresser/vanity powder jar hallmarked "Birks Sterling" in their very special (and quite rare) "Princess Margaret" pattern. Commissioned in honour of H.M. Princess Margaret in 1953, the pattern is very detailed but not 'fussy'. Don't let my photos fool you - this is a very large jar. 2 3/4" base, 3 1/2" mouth, 15" circumference and 2 1/4" tall. Webb crystal base in a diamond pattern with a 16-point star bottom. Absolutely perfect condition. No chips, cracks, fleabites or rough patches. The sterling silver lid is a real stunner!! 4" across and 3/4" deep. Back-rolled rim, 62.5 grams total sterling weight, perfect condition. The pattern has a multi-banded pinstripe background with floral accents on the top, bottom and upper sides with a rectangular cartouche in the center (monogram "P" or "T") that has the same floral accents surrounding it and joins the cartouche to the top and bottom of each piece. Clearly stamped "Birks Sterling", this is a very special powder jar from one of the world's finest silversmiths. Uninsured S&H within the US will be $6.95. I will gladly combine shipping on any of my auctions so please check out my other items and be sure to add me to your favorites list !
