# 5679. A Grand Tour Roman Bronze Askos wine Pitcher on stand Nimes France 19th century. Size of the pitcher is: 8.5" tall and the base is 6" tall. We have had this pitcher a few times over the past 30 years but this is the first one with its pedestal. Purchased in Europe by a relative of the Newport family we purchase it from. The original was uncovered in Nimes France. Thomas Jefferson while in Nimes viewed the original and though so much of it that he had it copied in wood and subsequently in silver where it is on display at Monticello. So both pitcher and base were purchased together in the late 19th century. . . together both weigh 7 lbs. There are no marks on either piece. We ship UPS Ground and Ebay facilitates over seas forwarding . . .
