CDV of Colonel Frank/French B Woodall of Illinois. Woodall served with the 16th Illinois Vols from 5/61-5/64 as a First Liutenant. The 16th was stationed in Missouri and Tennessee in1861-2 fighing Guerrillas and manning posts. In 1864 it was involved in Sherman's campaign on Atlanta. Woodall left the 16 and was promoted into the 157th w he became Colonel of the regiment and was stationed in Georgia w the 157th was headquarterd doing garrison duty on Sherman's supply lines along the railroad. Evidently the 157th spent its whole career in Georgia at the end of the War. This image shows Woodall standing in his Colonel's uniform, is autographed in period ink on the verso "presented F B Woodall Col 157th Ill". But what is spectacular about this image is that Woodall is standing next to a Confederate Sword which he is displaying the Chair next to him. Clearly a non US sword by which can be seen by looking at the hilt and shape of the sword and the belt. I am guessing this sword was presented to him by a Confederate officer of high rank who surrendered it at the end of the War since the 157th was stationed in George till mid 1866. Great presentation of this important captured weapon by this Colonel. Shipping and insurance $6, Check, MO or Paypal.
