*Great* Turpentine Box-ChipperAxe, Marked, Good Quality Piece, w/Org Handle
- Source: eBay
Up for your consideration is this super nice, turpentine box/chipper axehead and original handle. The handle is in poor shape at the connecting point, but it's there. The head is in great overall shape & is marked at the end on one side, but I can't make it out. The head is 12" in length, 3-1/2" at it's widest point. The head has some pitting and a few dings on the curved cutting edge. This axe was used to chip out the notch for the catch box that caught the sap. They stopped using this process when they figured out that cutting out the notch was killing the trees. That's why these axes are so hard to find. They were cut down, and repurposed for the most part. That's why finding one in this condition is becoming much more difficult. You will not find one in any better shape than this. It will make a great addition to any turpentine tool, or any tool collection for that matter. This is a museum quality piece. Please look at the pics and ask any questions that you may have before you bid. If you need more photos, just ask. This item is being sold AS-IS, AS-FOUND.
