This appealing chawan (tea bowl) is the work of Hirano Kyodo, a Hagi potter born in 1927. The frozen drops of white glaze on this humble bowl seem to chill it and soften its character; the bowl has a wide mouth w the tea can cool down and is to be used in the hotter months of the year. The kodai (foot), as a true image of the cosmos, seems to present the entire Milky Way. Hirano Kyodo studied under the illustrious Yamato Shoroku X, his grand-father and a descendant of the famous Yamato lineage of Hagi potters. Hirano established his kiln, called Totozan in 1971, w his son, Hosei, also a well known potter, works, too. The chawan is signed, in perfect condition and comes in a signed box. Dimensions: 14 cm x 6 cm (5.6 in x 2.4 in), Weight: 220g (7.7 oz) More pictures available on demand.
