HIROSHIGE UKIYO-E WOODPRINT JIGSAW PUZZLE THE PICTURE The Plum Garden at Kamata (From his series 100 Views of Edo) Utagawa Hiroshige (1797 – October 12, 1858 ) was a Japanese ukiyo-e artist, and one of the last great artists in that tradition. He was also referred to as Andō Hiroshige (an irregular combination of family name and art name) and by the art name of Ichiyūsai Hiroshige. Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji is the title of two series of woodblock prints by this artist, depicting Mount Fuji in differing seasons and weather conditions from a variety of different places and distances. DESCRIPTION I have cut this jigsaw puzzle by hand from a 3mm (1/8” nominal) medium density fiberboard (MDF) panel. This material is typically used as a wall covering in many homes. MDF is an engineered wood product made from natural wood fibers. Because MDF is made from waste wood it is eco-friendly. The picture is bonded to the wood panel and then each puzzle piece is hand cut using an electric scroll saw that is fitted with a very fine 0.008” blade, NOT a laser or water jet cutter controlled by a computer. The puzzle is then assembled to insure that all pieces are present and of the highest quality. A final coat of matte finish lacquer is applied and the puzzle is disassembled and packaged.
