This is an absolutely FABULOUS handmade French whitework and linen bedspread and bolster cover from the about 1900. The bedspread measures 90 by 108 inches (will fit a queen with a 15 inch overhang on each side) and the bolster cover is 34 by 90. The linen is a heavy homespun fabric with scalloped edges all around both pieces edged with hand embroidery, the spread has cut out corners on the bottom for bed posts. The spread can be used with or without the bolster cover, I show pictures both ways (I'm sorry these pics aren't better, I will get more as soon as I can). The design on both pieces have large whitework sunflowers with lace centers with a large monogram in the middle that reads NHS in thickly padded embroidery with flowers in the letters. The handwork is very French and very, very beautiful, my pictures do not do it justice! There are a few very faint stains at the bottom of the spread that are hard to see without good light, the set is otherwise in excellent condition, I have washed and pressed it. This set appears to have been seldom used. This is a truly gorgeous set the linen is very strong yes soft and cool with the wonderful hand that only French antique linens have! Sets like this are very hard to come by.
