A tree is one of God's most magnificent creations. It's fibrous interior frequently reveals wood with beautiful grain patterns and/or radiant colors. The craftsman is challenged to enhanced these natural attributes through the application of skillful workmanship and use of the finest available finishing materials. This is the premise upon which this product was crafted.

The wood I used in this piece of Useable Art has a historical heritage. Mission Olive was cut from one of the oldest and largest olive trees on the central coast of California. The tree is so named because it was part of a grove planted by the padres of the San Luis Obispo Mission some time after its establishment in 1772. For over 200 years this tree continued to bear fruit and beautify the landscape. Finally the old tree reached the end of its natural life and had to be removed. The wood of the Mission Olive was crafted into this piece of Usable Art so that the tree's internal beauty would live on and bring pleasure to it's users.
