Harrison Begay Native American Silkscreen Print from Tewa Enterprises. Harrison Begay (born 1917) is one of the most celebrated and prominent Navajo artists. His work has had a profound impact and influence on Navajo art and his work is internationally known and acclaimed. He received his first formal training at the Santa Fe Indian School under Dorothy Dunn. It was t that he was first introduced to silkscreening techniques by Louis Ewing. This print was produced by Tewa Enterprises which was founded in Santa Fe in 1951 by Harrison Begay, A. Hamilton Mencher, and Charles Barrow. It was one of the first printing companies that existed to solely promote Native Arts. Woody Crumbo, Harrison Begay, Gerald Nailor, Pop Chalee, and Harrison Begay were some of the many Indian artists whose works were reproduced by Tewa Enterprises. Cofounder A. Hamilton Mencher comments, "All of Tewa's runs consisted of two thousand impressions of high quality paper using the best Nazda silk screen paints". Tewa's silkscreens, however, were not individually numbered. This silkscreen is matted and unframed. The silkscreen is in very good condition. The colors appear fresh and sharp, t is no foxing, no apparent conditional issues. It appears to be in its original matt, and would probably need to be replaced, but I'll leave that for the buyer to decide. The
