Extraordinary heavy solid silver belt buckle, produced by artist Dietgart (California antiques dealer and artist) made in 1986, a specialty item made exclusively for Sax 5 th Ave. Store Beverly Hills. The design is take from a Chinese Scepter, called a Ruyi, which translates as wishes, it is a curved decorative scepter used in Chinese Buddhism or a talisman symbolizing power and good fortune in Chinese folklore. The artist owned such a Ruyi made of jade and from this was able to reproduce the design of Chinese dragons and turn them into a beautiful work of art in the form of a belt buckle. See photos This is a heavy 2 piece buckle made in such a way that the belt material leather or fabric can be interchangeably used. And the sale of this belt buckle includes a leather belt strap for use in the buckle, it has never been used. The 2 piece buckle is marked on each piece with the Artist’s signature “Dietgart and year of make which is 1986. They were made in a small number and sold exclusively through the Beverly Hills Saks 5 th Ave. store. There is also an impressed mark “Sterling” on the back where they hook together. Size: when hooked together it is 3 ½” long , almost 1 ½” wide and a depth of about 1”, it is deeply worked design.
