Matisse profoundly influenced his younger friend, PABLO PICASSO, as well as many other artists both during and well after his lifetime, right up to the present day. Henri Matisse was also the creator of FAUVISM (literally, " Wild Beasts ") a wild, uninhibited style espousing great liberation and joyfulness . Proponents of Fauvism in the early to mid-20th century include ANDRE DERAIN and the two French painter brothers, RAOUL DUFY and JEAN DUFY.
