A School History of the Negro Race in America from 1619-1890, w/ a Short Introduction as the Origin of the Race; also, a Short Sketch of Liberia. Johnson, Edward. W.B. Conkey,, Chicago, IL:, 1897. Revised edition (first published in 1890). 200 pp. Illustrated, plates, portraits. The author was serving as principal of the Washington School in Raleigh, North Carolina, at the time of publication. Original black-stamped green cloth, gilt spine title, all edges red. Covers show wear, mostly at extremities, top of spine cover missing small cloth piece. Hinges split, text block about 95% separated from covers/spine, small split to rear board from spine cover, but very clean. Pages are browning, some chipping on a couple edges, but all present. Very rare early Black Americana piece. Good luck, copies are selling online for over 300$!!
