Every item out of this shipwreck WAS logged in and GIVEN A NUMBER (bar-code sticker) by archeologists in 1999 when they salvaged this shipwreck cargo/pottery/ceramics from the dephts of the Dragon sea. South China Sea of the coast of Vietnam. (see picture of the map).
They have been tested and are LEAD FREE
MELON SHAPE, PLAIN CREAM GLAZED BODY PAINTED IN UNDER GLAZE BLUE CENTERED WITH A LOTUS FLOWER OR CHRYSANTHEMUM MEDALLION ON A COBALT BLUE GROUND, ENCLOSING A WAVE BAND OR WITH A VINE LIKE TRELLIS DESIGN, AND WITH RADIATING OUTER BANDS OF PETALS OR JEWELS.
These are some picture from the Butterfield auction catalog when these boxes where sold in October of 2000 in San Francisco lot# 1948- 1986 This BOX came OUT OF ONE OF THESE LOTS
CONDITION : These have been in seawater for over 500 years Chips, marine encrustation, minor staining and degrading of glaze. This one has NO major chips or cracks
HAS a bit of a gray/brown wash Has some staining and ONE some BROWN/BLACK PITs Has crazing (crackling of the glaze)
Has almost NO encrustations Cobalt blue is STILL BRIGHT but a bit runny
