For sale are 34 volumes of works by Honore De Balzac. This set was published by the Avil Publishing Company, Philadelphia. This is the Touraine Edition, and all copies are marked 117 of a limited edition of 1250. This was issued as a 36 vol. set. Volume 15 is missing from this set. The books are in good condition. I did not look at every page, but flipping through the books I did not see any marks or writing. All the books have some light toning or light foxing on the inside of the front and back covers. The spines are good with the exception of a loose spine on vol. 32. The top of the pages are trimmed and gilded. The side and bottom of the pages are untrimmed. The grey-green covers show some wear. Some vol.s are slightly faded. The top and bottom edges of the spines show wear from bumping. All the books except for vol.s 7 and 34 are are dedicated to Dr.J Quiney Dowling from Zella De Milhau. They are written freehand in pen and ink. The inside cover of all the books have an owners sticker that reads; Louis John de Crenon de Milhau. Zella de Milhau (1867-1964) was a painter and etcher. She is also known as the woman that started Block Beautiful in 1902. She lived on Henry Street in Brooklyn Heights.. She persuaded home owners to plant flowers and trees.
