My sister loved unicorns so my Sunrise Unicorn Dream Catcher is dedicated to her and my best friend, Beth. The rim is grapevine...makes a very nice circle! The web is woven of imitation sinew. I used a round cut pewter unicorn charm, vintage glass beads, glass pound beads, vintage glass pony beads, and dyed marabou feather fluffs. There is a mother-of-pearl gold wire wrapped unicorn horn at the top of the dream catcher and a beaded crystal holder hanging from the dream catcher. Measures 5 1/2" x 13", with feathers. It is said that Native Americans believe the "Above People" or Sky Spirits communicate with humans in sleep. The Ojibwe first made dream catchers using willow branches and the tradition spread to many other nations across Turtle Island. The Cherokee wove intricate dream catchers on bent willow branches and twisted grape vine and these were placed by the bed where the morning light would strike them. This light would aid the dreamers in recalling their nightly visions. My dream catchers are made in the traditional way, as taught to me by two Cherokee women-mother and daughter. I am honored to have learned from them at a special time and place. I place charms and fetishes as spirit guardians at the opening of the dream catcher to speak to the dreamers. I hope they will bring good dreams and good dancing! Thanks for visiting!
