We sold several of these that we found rolling around the corner of a barn in Lancaster County, Pa or true Amish country. We have a few left from the last find. Some recent research seems to suggest that the site was the location of a bell casting (and other castings) foundary. We were able to restore several from this find. This one weighs nearly 3/4 pound as is probably the largest sleigh bell at a Number 15. Measures 3 inches across and is brass with an iron clacker ball inside. This was somewhat green and tarnished when we dug it but Pennsylvania winters are pretty easy on brass. It's been museum restored to bring the rich brass patina out. We water blasted the inside and the iron clacker even came out perfectly. This thing went from no sound to rich tone. Excellent condition almost like the day it was made with no cracks or chips. Connection loop is perfect also were it once was fastened to the leather strap. Neat Christmas item. I recommend it as a stess reliever. I've also show more photos of other sleigh bells found at the location that weren't as lucky. They look great by have some serious stress fractures and not very good tones.
