BEST INDUS VALLEY SLIP DECORATEDTERRACOTTA DISH WITH PALM FROND AND REVERSE DRAPPING BORDER Harappan Civilization 2800-1800 BC Offered is an intact unrepaired (and uncleaned) terra cotta (hard waterproof semi fired clay) dish from the 3rd to 2nd Millennium BC of the Indus Valley Civilization. You will note from the photos that there is more of a beige terra cotta body color that could well be indicative of the pre Aryan period. The iconic dish body form is something seen through the Classic Harappan period. With little earth accretions can be seen a dark brown slip decoration that is easily seen below the outside lip edge and repeated in the inside in multi-lines draping inward, concentric lines, and centered a decoration of a branching palm frond that was a common motif. This dish can easily be cleaned more to expose the slip decoration if the Buyer wishes, however this paint is excellent and IS NOT A REPAINT . This vessel is nearly 1 1/4 inch tall and nearly 3 3/4 inches wide at the widest circumference. There is very little roughness anywhere on this dish from antiquity, and this piece is completely stable, as I have shown it in the pictures. Here is a wonderful opportunity to acquire a fine authentic example from a very ancient and important World Culture from antiquity at a very reasonable price. This vessal is so elegant
