IRON CROSS PENDANT/LOCKET in Sterling, WWII Era -- Pristine!

I am selling this authentic vintage piece for a friend who turns 95 in a couple of months. Her husband was a minister, and it was given to him by a German soldier in the 1940's, according to her recollection. It's been sitting in her drawer for a long, long time. It would be fun to know more about it, but that's all she can remember. It could even go back to WWI? The soldier likely kept pictures of loved ones inside the locket. If anyone out there can shed more light, please let us know.

The pendant measures about 1 inch in diameter, and the 1.5mm 'wheat' chain measures about 17 inches. The entire piece weighs 8.45g. On the inside surface there is some hand etching that looks like "XIIII" and "M". This does not show from the outside, which has no marks or scratches on the face, and minimal wear at the back. The piece is silver, but has no hallmarks.

Here's your chance to own a piece of history!
